christmas

as i transition out of africa, i'm trying really hard to live in the moment. to focus on the present. so much change is going to occur in the next few weeks. i want to be alive and fully engaged through it all.

thus i'm not going to focus on how incredibly devastated i am about leaving africa, but rather on the funniness of christmas here. first, lets be honest... there is something really strange about getting ready for the holidays when it is 80+ degrees, green and sunny. i'm a wisconsin girl. the frozen tundra. the land of snow, below zero, fireplaces and overstuffed coats. the one that bing crosby sang about..... the land of the white christmas!!    .... although i must admit there is still no snow there (and i'm quite disappointed) haha....

for real though, the funnier thing about christmas in africa is the decorations. if you wanted to win a tacky christmas contest just shop here!!! the local grocery store specializes in fake charlie brown trees, gaudy, flashing lights and tinsel that is probably from 2 decades ago. awesome!! haha.

soon, i will go home to peppermint lattes, warm blankets and real trees... but for now, i laugh and enjoy the festivities of african christmas :)
