It is amazing to think that I have been here for about three weeks now. I have settled in and am finally becoming comfortable with the slower pace. It is 100% different from the chaos that is the American mindset. The quiet, free-time, and boredom that I have been encountering was a bit unnerving for a while. I am not used to being still. God has used it though and has revealed to me that this is the time when I’m to be like mary—sitting at his feet and listening. There is so much he wants to do in me. So many changes he wants to make. In time, as I process them, I will reveal more. Needless to say, it is painful and beautiful all at the same time. I pray that when I leave I will not be the same girl that came. How I long to be transformed into the image of our maker.
Watoto has 3 baby homes scattered throughout Uganda . Each is very different as far as landscape and surroundings. At the end of every month there is a meeting for all of the volunteers and new baby home assignments are given out. Thus, I will most likely be moving in less than a week. Crazy! I’m not going to tell God where I want to be though. That is in his hands. I am working on not planning for God, but rather letting his will be done.
I have become very attached to several babies at suubi though. if i'm called somewhere else next month it will be heartbreaking to leave them!! I work with the littlest ones here. They act to be about 5-6mo old, although no one really knows for most of them... Jeff, my little hunny, is soooooooooo ADHD. He is constantly moving and has trouble sitting up for long periods because he gets too excited and falls over! He has come to recognize me though and will smile, fling his hands in the air and wildly kick his feet whenever he sees me. Melts my heart. Shamza is my african beauty. She was found on a garbage pile in the slums, but God has given her the biggest smile. She is starting to giggle now and it is the cutest sound in the world!
